Sabai grass is a natural fibre which grows near river banks. Also known as the elephant grass/African grass. First ropes are made by hand twisting the grass. The bundles are then soaked in natural dyes before drying in the sun. These are handwoven by tribal women in small villages of Orissa in India and it takes about 8-15 days to complete a set.
