How is our Coconut Sugar Made?
Coconut sugar comes from the blossom of the coconut tree. The coconut blossoms create a sweet nectar/sap that is extracted by making a cut on the flower of the coconut palm and collected in containers.
The liquid is gently heated and dehydrated to obtain brown crunchy sugar crystals. The end product is caramel coloured and retains the goodness extracted from the coconut blossom. It tastes similar to brown sugar.
How is coconut sugar a healthier alternative?
Coconut sugar has a Glycemic Index(GI) of just 35, whereas regular sugar has a GI of 60-65.
Regular table sugar doesn’t contain any vital nutrients and therefore supplies “empty” calories, whereas coconut sugar is high in iron, zinc, potassium, polyphenols, flavonoids, and fibre.
