Sellers With a Cause
The story of Indha goes back to 1996, when a Foundation called Literacy India was established as a non-for profit organization, with the objective of empowering underprivileged children and women and making them self-sufficient. Indha was born out of Literacy India, – aimed at developing the skills for artisans, a diminishing art form with the evolution of modern technologies. In 2004, production centres were set up in the villages of Daulatabad, Sarai and Bajghera to facilitate them in supporting themselves. Unlike private companies in the handicraft sector that align themselves with skilled workers, as an organization, Literacy India and Indha, invest in the training of artisans and in ensuring their well being by providing higher wages, medical benefits, financial education and good work conditions.
The inspirational story of Shine On Candles started in 2004 and was conceptualized in 2022 by a group of young adults who grew up in various orphanages and made a remarkable choice - to be grateful for the life they were blessed with. The biggest obstacle of all was their own health, born to HIV-positive parents, a condition inherited at birth. Their courage to dream soon found supporters to help them spread their wings and set up a boutique candle-making unit in Bangalore. Now Shine On Candles manufactures over 50,000 candles a year and is now making the world better with their efforts. The profits from Shine On are used to support young adults with HIV to find their own ground and lead near-normal lives.
